About
Michael Sherman is an author and illustrator who brings a fine-art sensibility to children’s literature.
After exhibiting internationally for more than a decade, he now focuses on creating visually rich, emotionally resonant books for readers from early childhood through middle grade.
His work has appeared in Northwest Review, and his illustrations have received the NYC Big Book Award, IBPA Award, American Fiction Award, and Pinnacle Award.
He has exhibited in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Basel, Rome, and London, and has held residencies with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Cill Rialaig Arts Centre (Ireland), CHASHAMA’s Spaces Program, and the National Academy Museum. He is an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant recipient and the artist behind a permanent mural on 125th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Michael’s practice balances illustration, teaching, and exhibition work; he also teaches creative aging, using the arts to support cognitive health and social engagement among older adults.
Michael is currently seeking literary representation and new publishing opportunities.
